Chicago Cubs Chance of Winning 2016 World Series
This year’s Chicago Cubs team intrigues baseball fans. After beating the Giants in the Division Playoffs, the Cubs made it to the 2016 World Series Championship. They won their first MLB World Series in 108 years. The Cubs have been trying to shake their curse for that long. The curse revisited the team in 1969 when a black cat walked in front of the dugout. To try and get rid of the curse, the first thing the Cubs did was having a Greek priest remove any spirits from the field. That didn’t work. Another time, Dusty Baker put Holy Water from the Vatican over the field. However none of this worked at all. The Cubs finished the 1994 season below .500. The next year they tried to destroy the curse when the Billy Goat Tavern brought a new goat to try and reverse the curse. This failed too. But beating the Giants in the playoffs might have been all they needed to do. As of November 2nd, 2016, the Chicago Cubs are the winners of the World Series and they have finally broken the curse. This commotion will last for a long time.
Meryl Streep 2016 Golden Globes
Entertainers have long used award programs to voice their political views. This year, Hollywood used the Golden Globe awards to protest against Donald Trump. Lots of stars showed their disgust when Trump won the election. But there was one person that no one expected to do this. Meryl Streep collected a lifetime achievement Globe, and she created a new culture war. She targeted Mr. Trump’s showmanship and revealed him as insidious. She called on actors, immigrants, journalists and others to stand together and support the arts and the First Amendment. She showed Mr. Trump as a bully who could whip his supporters into a frenzy. One reason Streep protested Trump in her speech was because Trump mocked a disabled New York Times reporter in 2015. In addition, Streep campaigned for Clinton in the 2016 presidential election. Although it’s said some people criticized her for bringing politics into the show, most of the people loved her remarks. Trump’s response was he thought of Meryl as “one of the most over-rated in Hollywood”. He also called her a “Hillary flunky”. Although this is only one of the many protests against Trump, Streep still has a big effect on galvanizing opposition to Trump.
